If you happen to stumble upon one of the oldest cities in Europe, previous capital of Poland and cultural center, you are quite lucky. You will be fascinated with it’s unique feeling, that is charming even for Poles visiting it for the first time. This city never really sleeps, and there are plenty of attractions for both day and night. What should you prioritize?
Old Town
The very heart of the city is located in the square main market, which was the center of commerce in Middle Europe and now stands for a great monument to those times. You can find old market building called Sukiennice (Cloth Hall), visit St. Mary Basilica just around it or walk towards the royal castle – Wawel. There are plenty of museum around, including the underground museum with archeological findings from centuries ago, royal castle exhibitions and church museums. This is the very essence of Krakow, with plenty of polish restaurants, to try exhibit cuisine, evolving from both Austrian and Polish influence.
Kazimierz District
Jewish district is as magical as Old Town, but with it’s own unique feeling. You will see the difference, on the moment you cross that boarder. Narrow streets with old buildings. Small market plazas with different food places and cafes to enjoy. You can walk near the river for a plenty of time, enjoying the sun or snow, depending on the season.
Planty Garden
While at walking subject, other great example of climatic place would be Planty Garden. This circular area of green park is surrounding old town and has a great atmosphere for a romantic evening, especially during winter. It was painted many times, due to that atmosphere. Many great polish artists and scientists were looking for an inspiration there. Up to this days young students cultivate their emotions there or simply have fun with others during long conversations. It is surprisingly quiet and live place at the same time. Sometimes it is stunning, how you can cross Szewska, main nightlife street there and in one moment experience calm surroundings.
Axe Throwing Club
Near Basztowa street you can also have unique and memorable evening with friends. Axe throwing club is a place to either stress out or kickstart an epic party. In both instances you will find what you are looking for. In privately rented venues, you can toss axes for hours long, drink beverages and beer or even order food. Everything can be memorized by taking some great photos, including those made in Viking cosplay. Did you know this famous sport was actually invented by them and only revisited by Canadians recently? Thematic cafes
Krakow has plenty of thematic cafes, it is famous for. On the Old Town alone you will find great ideas for such places. There is for example a Leaky Cauldron, place inspired by Harry Potter series. Plenty of Cat Cafes, places when you can order coffee and play with cats. Cthulu Café can be found near Main Station and there are two very popular Board Game pubs – Hex and Boardowa. And those are just the examples.
